Hi, I’m new

Hello,
I just found this list.
I am 32 years old, and was diagnosed a type I diabetic at the age of
20. I know that is quite late in life, so I feel quite fortunate
that I did not have to deal with diabetes through my childhood and
teen years.
I am currently a mother of 2 healthy boys aged 6 and 3(it was a huge
relief to find out diabetics can have safe and healthy pregnancies!)
and I work part-time selling home and auto insurance.
I live in Canada, so the measurements we use for bloodsugar are a
bit different than most of what I’ve seen posted. To give you a
comparison, I was told a healthy blood sugar range is 4.0 to 8.0 and
most healthy people I’ve checked (lots of friends and family were
curious about my meter when I was first diagnosed) were around 5.5-
6.0.

Lately my control has been lousy. I am averaging about 12, with way-
too-frequent spikes to 18 or 20, and the occasional low of 2 (close
to passing out, for me) due to over-agressive attempts to
compensate. It has been far too long since I’ve had my A1C
checked. I am afraid to go in, because I’m pretty sure the results
will be bad.
It’s good to find this place. I am hoping to find some help and
motivation to improve without having to feel stupid/guilty/wrong for
not controlling everything better. Thanks for being here.
