Janice

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in January 1999 and also
barely made it into hospital with blood sugars over 950, all I wanted
to do was sleep and I just thought I had the flu or something,
luckily my girlfriend was staying with me that weekend and she woke
me up, got me to doctors, and I was admitted one hour later. I was so
weak I could not even be x-rayed standing up and I collapsed on floor
of my room and they thought I had a heart attack.
I was started on Insulin and since I was overweight I also
decided to lose the weight I needed to. After about a year I had lost
85 pounds and I am now within 20 pounds of my goal weight. This I did
even though I am taking insulin , so I don’t buy the explanation
that Insulin puts on weight. It just restores the body weight back to
what it was before ketoacidosis, the rest is up to you to lose the
weight. What you did was extermely dangerous and I winced as I read
your account. I was horrified how you have abused your body by not

taking Insulin.
The one good thing is however, is that by losing weight you
can reduce your Insulin intake substantially. When I started my diet
I was taking over 100 units twice a day, now I only take one shot in
the morning of 30 units and no more shots for 24 hours, but I am also
very careful about what I eat during the day.
I wish you the best of luck in the future and hope your
health continues to improve. JOHN
