Newly Diagnosed and Confused

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

I am brand new to this group and I am also newly diagnosed with Type
2 diabetes. My Doctor has not put me on any medications yet - my
blood sugar seems to be under control now with changes in diet and
excercise. She has, though, told me to get a glucometer and to begin
daily monitoring of my blood sugar levels. I have many questions
about the logistics of this.
First, what glucometers are the best to get - there are so many out
there and I don’t know enough about how to compare them.
Second, What is the best place to get supplies? My local pharmacy?
A medical supply company? One of the ones on TV who delivers all of
your supplies and bills your insurance company?
Third, my Insurance company has been less than helpful about what and
how these things are covered. Are testing supplies covered like
prescriptions?
Finally, what are all of the things I need? Does the glucometer

SO NICE

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Hi, again.
I just posted for the first time yesterday, and I got such wonderful
responses. It is so good to know that I am not alone, that someone
who knows what I am going through will talk to me and not just say it
will be ok, not knowing whether it will be or not.
Thank You
Cheryl

My doc. just told me on friday the 15th that I have type 2. I am
having a very difficult time digesting this information. I had no
clue or symptoms that I had diabetes, I recently had my yearly
physical and this was the result. I don’t know how to change my
diet, should I never eat carbs or sugar again? My doc. gave me a
script for something that I have not gotten filled yet that looks to
be something called (doc’s writing you know) GLUCOHOL or GLUCONOL 5mg.
oh yes and a meter for testing my blood 2x a day.
Thank you for any advise you may give me. I have been reading the
posts of the past month.

Of great importance to read this.

door.)
This is for those starting or on the go with diabetes and not

remain slim or slimmer than you would be, if you carried on the old
way.
There are some “IF’s” attached to this. Nothing comes without
effort. You will ALWAYS have to stick to your diet, you will ALWAYS
have to take your medication at THE SAME TIME, you will ALWAYS

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

I know that this is a long post and if the list owner wants to delete
it I have big shoulders and won’t be insulted. It is not spam and
there is no sales pitch.
I post it for the following types of members:
1. Members like me who are just starting out.
2. Members who are having trouble remembering why this is important.
3. Members who are falling into bad habits.
4. Members who want to cultivate new good habits.
If you don’t fit into any of the above categories, ignore this post.
You members that have been fighting this disease for years, please
excuse the enthusiasm of a newly diagnosed type 2 - you know what a
pain we can be…”Let us begin now, for until now we have done
nothing.” St. Francis of Asissi.
