Hello All
My name is Michael and I was diagnosed with Type 2 about five weeks
ago. To say that my life changed when I was diagnosed would be an
understatement. I never really thought much about what I ate or
drank. As a consequence I was overweight and sluggish. Since I was
diagnosed I have begun to watch what I eat, charting it very
carefully and taking my BS three times a day, once before each meal.
My problem since I have been diagnosed has been the effect Glynase
has on me. Three hours after I take the drug my BS drops to around
40 - that is after a breakfast of Oatmeal, 2eggs, 2 slices of toast
with No sugar strawberry preserves. The first time it dropped so low
I was a bit shakey. Now I guess my system is adjusting to it because
it does not seem to bother me. My doctor is spreading my Glynase
over two doses now, 12 hours apart. This has not seemed to help.
After work, before dinner, my BS
Anyway, no matter what, I am shedding weight. 18 months ago I was
256 lbs and now I am down to 196 with a goal to reach of between 160
and 170 pounds. I feel better and even if I was told that I didn’t
have to watch my intake I still would.
I am also getting used to smaller portions. I think the long and the
short of this disease is balance. If you take care life will become
easier. If you eat the wrong things you have to expect complications.
I am close to being right here? I need some words from you veterans
out there.
Finally I want to say that today for me the sun shines a little
brighter, not because of diabetes but because of the spiritual
awakinging it has caused inside of me. Things and processes I used
to take for granted I now marvel at. This is a powerful and cunning
disease that affects our minds as well as our bodies. I am steeling
myself for what is to come but I also am doing all in my power to
fight the degenerative processes that accompany this disease. For
me, to do less, would be surrendering to a tyrant and this I will
never do.
Any words of advice for this newbie from any of you grizzled old
veterans out there would be appreciated. I am glad to be a part of
this group and look forward to full participation. “Let us begin now
for until now we have done nothing” (St. Francis of Assissi)
Best regads as always
