Newly DX with Diabetes
Just to say hi to the members of the club. I have
just joined, as I am newly dx with diabites, and kind
of scared. I was put on Euglocon, 10mg in the
morning & 7.5mg at dinner. My sugars are still really
high in the afternoons & evenings & my Dr told me not
to rule out insulin as a next step. I am hoping to
control it with diet & exercise, but the exercise is not
really an opiton at this time. I have been very ill for
almost 21/2 yrs. with a bad crohns flare. The Dr tells
me that the diabetes is drug induced, from the
steriod use to control my crohns. Sorry to run on, but
just passing a little info out regarding my health.
Hope to get to meet you all soon, do you have a
regular chat, if so, when, thanks for listening, Mary

better and you will feel better. Are you still on the steriods?<br

Hi Mary,<br
a lot of similarities to mine. My diabetes was
discovered when I was hospitalized because my severe
ulcerative colitis flareup would not respond to 80 mg of
prednisone, plus asacol, plus cortifoam. I persevered for two
years while my gastroenterologist played with meds. I
was on death’s doorstep when my colon perforated
during a colonoscopy. I woke up to find I had an
ileostomy and a blood glucose count over 30 mmol.<br
was two years ago. I am doing okay now.<br
decided that my ostomy and the diagnosis of diabetes
saved my life. Now I have no colon, so I have no
colitis. Now I am aware of my diabetes, so I take insulin
and take care of my self to control the diabetes. It
hasn’t been easy and I am still learning diabetes
management<br
survival two years ago. Try to look at your diabetes as a
job. You may not like the rituals and responsibilities
but you must do them to survive and stay well. You
wouldn’t be “afraid” to have to work, perhaps a little
resentful; but if you take pride in your job and do it well,
you will come out on top. Take pride in your diligent
diabetes management routine, get as much education about
diabetes as you can and enjoy life. I am also Canadian.
From Hamilton, Ontario. I guess we have a lot in
common, eh? Good luck and post often. There is a lot of
good information and advice among this club’s
members.<br

based but i suppose if not excercise then you have to
eat very little to reduce your carb intake so you
have very little glucose in your system that needs
insulin. perhaps using proteins as your energy source will
delay insulin therapy but if that isn’t practicle then
insulin might be the answer and compared to a lot of
other diabetics around i am still a baby 13 yrs. of
injecting and believe me except wt control the rest of it
is not so bad. regards cheeks

Dear Mary,<br
diabetic club. I was diagnosed type 2 a year ago, and have
learned so much from this site, as well as have
appreciated the support. Am so sorry about your crohns
disease. I know how difficult it is to live with that
disease. <br
you. Remember, we are here for you.<br
