A bit more on neuropathy. fr. JOHN V.
Following my last posting which was on
neurophaty, here is some more…which is not so generally
known and holds a warning for the newcomers to
diabetes.<br
you on Buddys with Diabetes and miss you and yes, I
know what you want to say. I agree.<br
neuropathy than. It can start very early in your diabetes
travel. It get’s a chance to get in because at the
beginning your dia doesn’t hurt much so….we can sin
often. Al during that time you are working on the
establishment of your neuropathy. Stick to your sugar-control
at all times.<br
even know about neuropathy when I was diagnosed 41
years ago.<br
we have it today. Hardly anything to read about
it.<br
urinary system by not letting me know that my bladder was
full. So the consequence of that was<br
got overstretched and then we reached the point that
because of an overstretched bladder the elasticity had
left me and I could not empty my bladder anymore. Got
some out but 60 % or more stayed in there causing
infections. So something had to be done about that.<br
was put on inserting a catheter 4x per day for life.
This for a man is no picknick but women evenso they
have to go a shorter distance to the bladder it is no
fun either.I’m doing that for nearly 11 years now and
when there is a stricture in the urethra it has to be
surgically opened causing intense pain.<br
ankle ulcers are a consequence of not keeping an eye on
your bloodsugar from the start. Such an ulcer takes me
minimum 3 month of daily treatment (3x) to try to repair
because of lack of enough bloodsupply. I always thought
you had to have an injury first. Not so, right now
I’m working on an ulcer that restarted from an old
scar from an former ulcer. They can recur in the old
location in about 6-9 month again. Herb paid no attention
at first…he lost that leg and is in a wheelchair.
Get’s ulcers on his other leg, …strange that he pays
attention in great detail to that problem now, isn’t
it???<br
your doctor may tell you in passing, but it is soon
forgotten. Not by me.!!!!!!<br
“Rules for Diabetics” A while ago. Please read!

John,<br
post on Rules for Diabetics and Neuropothy. I’d love
to read them. I am having incidents of skin
ulcers–ugly scars that keep re-occuring on my right leg from
the knee down. I am terrified. They will dissapear
within a week or two with intensive Vitamin E and
Neosporin therapy, but always return. I have been Type I
for 22 years with no (knowck on wood) compications
yet. I ran two marathons last year, and have backed
off the running this year and think the circulation
may have decreased enough as a resukt, to cause this
to happen. Like I said, I am so scared. Is this
neuropothy? I have no health insurance and in California, no
doctor will see you if you are not insured. No company
here in the US will insure an independent diabetic.
So, I am not able to visit a doctor to get this
looked at. I am running again to try to stall this new
development. What do you think? I’d appreciate hearing your
response.

John <br
the clues you gave regarding toe neuropathy i have. i
pointed it out to my doctor but he never confirmed it or
gave advice except the usual that complications are
avoided by tighter control. but what do i do with the 2
toes that often are painful and sensitive. now when i
walk my toes start hurting so much that i can’t
complete the walk. i wish the dr would let me use the pump
but he is not agreeing that it will help. he says the
needle might get dislodged~!! anyway thak you for the
informtion at least i feel more informed now not floating in
dark space.

cute- You mentioned in your message that you did
not have health insurance. I would suggest that you
contact one of the insurance carriers in CA and ask if
ins is available to some one who can not pass
underwriting. <br
Dept of Insurance at your state capitol and ask them
the same thing. <br
insurace and also see a dr on a regular basis. <br
this will help you. <br

John- Again an excellent posting. I hope they pay
attention to you. Wake up everyone. I have been insulin
dependent for 58 years and certainly have some
complications too so do take care. <br
kicked off Buddys with Diabetes and have not been able
to get on it for a long time. I would very much like
to, if you would give me an invitatioon. PLEASE.
<br
being told on here because these are people who know
what D is really like. And as i have said before, it
is very difficult to find a dr who knows much about
D or care. But you must care. <br
