Please forgive this post. I do not have diabetes,
but I am looking for some advice/help. I suffer from
severe migranes & my dr. has prescribed DHE which is
given as a subcutaneous injection. I have a serious
phobia of needles & am having trouble giving myself
    these shots.<br
anyone here. I realize this is pretty stupid-me coming
to this board, but I couldn’t find anywhere else. I
wondered if anyone here has to give themselves injections
& if MAYBE you could say SOMETHING to help me get
over this. If not, please excuse me barging in
    here.<br

    Dear Christine<br
    giving myself insulin injections. <br
world’s biggest wimp. When I got my ears pierced, I used
to sit on the floor to change my earrings, because
when (not IF) I felt faint I wouldn’t have far to
    fall!!<br
you’ll be fine, because if I can do it, anybody can.
    <br
    - there are some things we can use which make it a
lot easier than using a conventional syringe.
    <br

floor & close my eyes? ha!<br
friend mentioned possibly there is something like an
    automatic, gun-like device I could use…<br
    stop being such a baby.<br

    Hi Chris,<br
daily and do finger pokes to monitor my blood at least
4 times a day as well. I was pretty spooked about
giving myself injections at first but very quickly
learned the touch so well that I can inject without
feeling it at all. I have had to pay close attention to
giving the shot because it is so uneventful that I can
sit with my “pen” in my hand trying to remember “did
I just give myself the needle or am I just getting
ready to do it.” I use a system called “Penfil”. I
looks like a fountain pen. The medication comes in a
cartridge that fits into the pen (just like an ink
cartridge in a writing pen.) Then each time you give the
shot, you thread on a new sharp. They are so fine and
short they can slip into the skin without disturbing

it. I use my belly as a site. I stretch a piece of
skin and hold the tip on the tight skin and just let
it slide in by itself without pushing or poking.
When the tip is under the skin surface, You press a
button at the top of the “pen” and a pre measured amount
of medication goes in. This works for me so well
that I don’t give it a thought. If you are nervous
about it in the beginning you can ask your doctor to
prescribe “Emla”. It is a cream you rub into a spot and
wait a few minutes for it to “numb” the skin before
you give the needle. I hope this helps you to conquer
your anxiety. I am confident you will do well and
adjust quickly. You had the “resources” (smarts) to find
this message board so you will surely have no trouble
    getting the routine down smoothly.

    chris….phobia of injections!!! that seems
a lifetime away…..try injecting an orange with
different food dies and once you get the hang of it try
your skin or get some body else to inject. personally
i hate other people injecting me i feel more in
control if i do it my self but that’s a personal choice.
regards cheeks \PS WHERE IS EVERY BODY IN THIS CLUB

    Hi Cheekired,<br
time the last week or two. He was going to hospital
today to have a procedure done. Even though he is not
feeling great his sense of humour and teasing nature are
alive and well. Hold down the fort. John will return
    soon.
