New here and to Diabetes

Friday, July 29th, 2005

Hi,<br
Type II. The doctor hasn’t prescribed meds yet. He
wants to do some more bloodwork (haven’t done the
glucose tests yet) and see if I can bring my level down
with diet. <br
about Diabetes. I got some books from the library but
haven’t got very far into them yet. To be honest, I’m
scared and confused. I know knowledge is my greatest
ally but I feel that the support and friendship of
others in the same position is
important.<br

I am trying something new. My insulin regime has
been Humalog 3 times a day before meals and Ultralente
U at night time. <br
Lantus instead of Ultralente U. It is suspose to give a
more even 24 hour coverage. It appears that it may
work well for me. <br
you have any side effects? Is it working well for
you? <br

Diabetics are often depressed and it seems like
it more than just feeling ‘down’ because you have a
chronic disease. There may be actual biochemical changes
in the brain over time that cause the depression.
Talk to your doctors about this. My doctor, in fact,
approached me saying that chronic depression in diabetics is
often overlooked by the medical profession. I ended up
on Prozac, which doesn’t make it ‘all better’ but
does improve my coping skills. -Dona
