Hello:<br
more than 10 years both myself & my wife. It is easy
for us to both have to eat the same things. You can
teach both your husband & son that they can try to have
a healthy life style eating the same things you do.
Good luck to you & your family From Thomas.<br

I hope your right about tht second nature stuff.
The only thing is my husband wont cooperate very well
right well. He likes his pepsi and sugar in his coffee
etc etc like your hubby. I also have my son to cook
for too an dhes 17. And he eats like a horse to boot.
Gues it will take some getting used to and your right
rethinking again. Im gonna have to learn to cook all over
again from scratch. Besides the fact that my hubby
works afternoon shift Mon to Fri which makes it even
harder to work around. HELP i HATE THIS.

Thank you for the advice. I have already been to
the Diabetic Education Centre and saw a nurse. I go
back in a month to see the dietician. Its not myself
so much Im worried about as my husband. Everyday
this week so far when Ive tested his sugar level its
been 9.8 or higher. I just cant get him to cooperate
with me and leave the pepsi alone or to consider stop
smoking or to use a sugar substitute in his coffee
either. Im sure when he goes back to the dr on Thursday
he will be put on pills for sure to start. I did the
grocery shopping on Sat and boy was it hard. I had to
stop and think about everything I bought and check the
canned stuff for the levels and signs etc. Dont know if
I can get used to shopping like this. Its gonna
take me sometime to get it right thats for sure and
<!--more-->
know what I'm doing for both our sakes I guess. Thanks

One of the harder things I find in dealing with
my diabetes is dealing with separate menus for me
from what I serve my non-diabetic husband. He wants
the pancakes, the bake goods, the comfort foods.
These are deadly no-nos for me. He wants salty,
dripping with butter, stuff...I gotta watch these things.
<br
cooking with things like rosemary, certain parsleys,
thyme, etc. adds the flavor he is seeking without
actually adding salt and colesterol. Baked fish, skinless
oven roasted chicken breast, vegatable replacements
for fatty meats, if prepared properly, will satisfy
him. In fact, he sometimes goes out and buys the
ingredients himself and says: "fix that again."<br
has taken relearning how to cook, learning how to
<!--more-->
weigh and measure foods pre-prepared and pre-serving.
Figuring out good balances. And there's nothing fast food
about it. It's almost a full time job to get it right
(and I don't always).<br
lucky that you don't have to prepare more than one sort
of meal--one for you and one for your husband. It
sure saves on dishes, pots and pans, and preparation
time. But, maybe you should take up a little hobby of
growing your own herbs as I do (not a lot of effort) and
haunting bookstores for healthy living cookbooks. Once you
get into the new way of thinking about food, it
becomes second nature.

Hi,<br
overwhelming and you tend to feel like you can't cope.
<br
awhile, things tend to fall into place and you learn to
live with it, and incorporate the changes necessary
into your lifestyle.<br
can recommend to you is to make an appointment with a
Diabetes Education Specialist, and also with a Diabetic
Nutritionist.<br
me, and through their assistance and support, I've
learned how to control my diabetes, lessen my medicine
intake, loose 60 pounds and lessen my colesterol. Sure,
it takes a little work, but it IS
do-able.<br
informed.<br
