Carb counting

Craft,<br
public and the professionals about this. I have been
pumping and carb counting for a long time. People are
always coming up and saying, “you can’t have that it has
sugar”. Everything you eat converts to simple sugar
before your body can use it. Carbs are the important
things to count.<br

What a weekend

Tuesday, December 28th, 2004

This was a busy but great weekend. Both boys came
with their families again. I<br
that one reason they are doing this is to keep<br
their Moma occupied with the weekend activities so she
won’t have time<br
situration with Beth and Becky. She<br
planning menus buying food and getting ready for them
to<br
sick and was still<br
all I can do is advise and recomend. We<br
assured them that with all the work they are putting into
it that it will<br
gave $50,000 for it in pretty sad<br
now it would bring $150,000 if we had it finished.

sugar

Saturday, December 25th, 2004

I applaud your rational approach, John. I
understand what Craft is saying but walking that line is too
risky for most of us. I would prefer to try to avoid
sugar at all than to sacrifice good nutritional carbs
to gain some sugar. I feel that gratifying a sugar
taste will sooner or later become a habit and will be
easily overdone.<br
sweet if I had one. Before I was diagnosed and unaware
of the complications of diabetes I worked with a
delightful, very intelligent man who had diabetes.<br
wondered how he was able to eat sweet buns and donuts at
every staff meeting. Now I know, he couldn’t. He died
before he could retire. I know his wife and kids wish he
had abstained.<br
sugar, they can sacrifice other carbs without getting in

Crafty,…..don’t get your bowels in an
uproar.<br
SUGAR. When people are brand new diabetics they come out
of a “sugary world” into one that is much less
“sugary” orientated. They may never have heard of your
calory counter, like the two I<br
for some very basic info, and that is what I gave
them.<br
way.<br

SWEET MISCONCEPTION

Saturday, December 18th, 2004

I have been hearing about and reading about (yes,
even on this message board) the “fact” that a Diabetic
cannot and should not eat any type of food containg
sugar. Ie.,candy, cakes, pastries or Ice cream. These
are FALSE statements!!!! Let’s get with the program
folks, let’s step into the new millenium. Moderation is
the key! You do not have to stop eating those sweets
that you love so much. As long as they are a part of
the carb count for that particular meal. Many
Doctors, Nurses and Nutritionists will tell you that you
will never have another cookie again, BUNK! Check it
out with the ADA, (American Diabetes Assoc.). In
fact, when checking food package labels, they don’t
even suggest looking at the Sugar content, just the
total carb count and fat count. Old School

To Anne……………………………

Thursday, December 16th, 2004

Anne,….I’m amazed how you can say you hate this
disease already.!!! I have it for 41 years and since I
love it so much I take 6 needles per day to stay
awake.<br
needles). I have the feeling it is type 2, since I’m such a
smart fellow.<br
nutritionist no doubt will give you a calory counter which
will at first seem complicated but it really is’t. Are
you both overweight??? (I won’t tell anybody, so you
can confess!!!) In that case you have to reduce your
food intake and work on the excersize (walking is good
every day!!!)<br
wife 41 years ago ….there was no info. We have taken
the common sense route all these years. Obviously no
candy, sugary desserts, large portions of food, cut back

Short-order cook serving a diner patron: “The
eggs refused to go over easy.”<br

of you passengers have any duct tape. If you do,
could you bring it up to the cockpit really
fast?<br
I told you, no coffee after

Jo,<br
it in a week, a month or a lifetime. I have had DM
for 44 yrs and there are still times I can’t handle
it, but I am living and enjoying life. So don’t
expect to much out of yourself and do what you can. Take
baby steps to start. You have alot of losses in such a
short time. Let yourself grieve all them and then pick
youself up and go on.<br
