hypo
does anyone know about possible side effects from
hypoglycemia? I have occasional hypos and sometimes i wonder if
it is hurting my body. i read somewhere that it
could cause brain damage because the brain has no
glucose to function. i love this club. it is such a
support. sometimes i get upset with my boyfriend of 3.5
years because he just doesn’t see the importance of the
same-time-of-day diet to keep my sugar down. he loves to eat ice
cream in front of me and then say “you can go get some,
it’s not gonna kill ya.” i already know it’s not gonna
kill me, but its not gonna help after i’ve already
eaten my snack at night. sickening. this diabetes has
really changed my life. i was going to school to be a
elementary school teacher, but since this i’ve decided to be
in the medical field. i take a test to try to get
into a RN program on May 23 and they only accept 10
people per year,so everyone pray i get in! thanks for
all the emails!(even though they’re not for me, i
still read all the info)<br

I too am prone to hypos and my dr says it is ok
its better to stay balanced a few hypos will not hurt
you. As for your boy friend he is not being fair, but
you are an adult and icecream though tempting is not
the end all of all pleasure. every time he eats make
him forfeit a few dollars to compensate your
patience…. soon you might be in a position to treat
yourself!!! your diabetes should not stop him yet he can show
his love tooooooo! take care asra

Melissa- you did not give us enough information
about your hypoglycemenia. Is it when you bs is getting
low, are you able to treat it yourself, and do you
lose consciousness?<br
for many years and Mayo Clinic in rochester, Mn is
more concerned about the lows than the highs , if you
treat them right away and correctly. <br
can damage your ability to think. And you are correct
that it is because your brain lacks in glucose to
function. <br
ice cream occasionally. The amount that you eat is
important. And some times even a teaspoon full sooths the
craving. <br
it?<br

Hi Melissa,<br
career goal, good luck on that test.<br
be surprised if extreme lows can cause some sort of
brain damage. Sometimes I wonder if all the extreme
lows that I had years ago caused some kind of memory
problem for me. I wouldn’t say that I have bad memory but
sometimes it seems that my memory isn’t like it used to
be.<br
around here.<br

Taty,<br
the memory loss. I also noticed that my memory its
not what it was. I had been under NO Control for over
26 years (many highs and many, many lows). So I too
wonder about that.<br
loss its really part of our normal aging process. Oh
well, How knows!?!?! <br

i have had dibetes for ages and plenty of memory
loss. Recently somebody said aspartame used as a sugar
substitute for extended period causesn neuron damage which
leeds to memory loss.<br
sodas etc. …Any comments?

Hi Taty<br
started to get very bad and I was really worried about
it. For other reasons I started taking zinc and
within a couple of weeks had an unmistakable improvement
in memory and clear thinking.<br
a bit and found that diabetics can have problems
processing and storing zinc, and can get low levels of this
mineral. Also, zinc levels can affect short term memory.
It should however be taken with caution as taking
too much of it can affect the levels of other
minerals in your body.<br
though. It made a big difference for me to take zinc for
a while.<br
