Tuesday, May 25th, 2004

I am in the library using the computer right now;
thought I’d take the opportunity to wish everyone a
wonderful holiday and to tell you all how much I’ve missed
you.<br
of my life (LOL)<br

I had posted a couple of days ago about my
situation, in several different clubs and had some very
kind, informative responses.<br
hospital where my clinic is, I had made an appt for this
coming monday, but the dr. wanted to see me the next day
(yesterday). After telling the 1st dr that I had ketoacidosis
about two weeks ago, he informed me that I couldn’t
have had that, being type 2. I felt like a fool, and
so upset when he said that I was actually on too
much glucophage. I was to the point of tears, thinking
it was all in vain. If too much glucophage couldn’t
get the #’s down, what would less of it do? The
second doctor walked into the room and said “you need to
be on insulin, this will be for the rest of your
life”. I was actually so relieved! (I’m not some sadist

Carol, Figgypie…………………..

Carol,….your doctor was half-right. Testing
after dinner will be high….but testing after 2 hours
is the way to go, that is the time to find out how
you are doing and test should show how your meds and
food worked out together.<br
Glucometer Elite are glucometer products and not AccuChek.
My opinion?<br
is handy for what the unwrapping of teststrips is
concerned, the only trouble I find is that it will skip a
teststrip from time to time, thus resulting in loss of
money to the user. The Glucometer Elite is very good at
“sucking-up” from the smallest amount of blood which I like. I
have had many testers so far and will stick with the 2
I use now. There is a new-one out called Lifescan
Ultra<br

I guess no one can say you had the gall to do
that again…(Grtoan, yeah, I
know…NEXT!)<br
this same thing when he was 75 and sailed through it.
What they are able to do now, is laproscopic. they
send a wee line up with a ‘basket’ type of catcher on
the end and bring it over the gallstone and pull it
out. My dad had the whole gall bladder out and my Man
friend has also had this done. Seems to be more of a
‘guy’s thing’ but am not sure on that. It’s painful to
live with though and once it’s gone, you’ll feel a
whole lot better!<br
Insurmountable? NO. What you have is _treatable_. You might give
thanks for this.<br

Newbie here…..

Tuesday, May 11th, 2004

Hi all, my name is Cathy and I’ve just found out
(monday) that I have diabetes. I’m gonna warn ya now, this
message may be a little long I’ve got so much going on in
my head right now with all this mess. I honestly
kind of expected this to come, I had gestational
diabetes 3 yrs ago, and am also a third generation
diabetic, but I did not expect to be diagnosed at this
point in my life. I guess you could say I’m still in
the “shocked” mode. I went to the Dr. because I had a
sore throat (it turned out to be step) and when he
learned I had recently lost 50+ lbs without really
trying, they did a fasting fingerstick test, to my utter
shock, my BS level was a whopping 400. The doctor
ordered more blood work, and sent me home with a couple
of bottles of Glucotrol and told me to eat as good

Glucose Monitor Question

Monday, May 3rd, 2004

Hi! I’m figgy. I’ve been silently joining with
you for some time now. I really enjoy the posts and
have learned a lot! My question is about Accuchek
Glucose Monitors/meters. I currently have a Dex monitor
which I like, but due to a change in insurance, my
company will now cover supplies for only the AccuChek
machines.<br
Advantage or any other Accucheck monitors? What are your
opinions of them. My Dex is so easy to use since I don’t
have to fool with strips, and the lancet is almost
painless. <br
AccuChek.<br
