    Hi yearightguys,<br
concerns about being put on shots, hopefully you won’t
need to be put on shots. Perhaps there is some kind of
Diabetes Wellness Program, many people that are having
trouble controlling their sugars benefit from these types
of programs. You should also talk to your doctor,
maybe he/she can advise you on ways to get your sugars
under control without putting you on shots.<br
a type 1 diabetic, I have been using an insulin
pump now for 3 years. But I was on shots since I was a
one year old. Being on shots wasn’t that bad for me,
now it’s even easier because there are so many kinds
to choose from. These days you can find needles that
are much thinner and shorter than some years
    ago.<br

diabetes complications, I would definitely choose being on
shots. I totally understand you not wanting to be on
shots, but if you ever are put on them, remember that in
the long run they can save you from getting diabetes
    complications.<br
can find on controlling your sugars. Go to a library
or a bookstore, there are plenty of books that talk
about diabetes self-care. You can also take a look at
the links area of this club, I’ve posted some links
there where you can find plenty of diabetes
    information.<br
diabetic penpals? If so, post the sites here or in the
links area. I think there might be other members that
would be interested in finding diabetic
    penpals.<br
magazine is from the American Diabetes Association, in
most of their issues there is an area where you can
find penpals, some people even write there Email
addresses, and you can post an ad asking for a
    penpal.<br
can you please post how you manage your diabetes.
    Thanks.<br

Hi, Taty. You asked that we who have Type 2
diabetes share how we manage our diabetes. I was diagnosed
in late December and with a strict diet and taking
medication have managed to get my blood sugars to between 80
and 120. I basically have only four servings of
carbohydrates a day and eat lots of fruits and vegetables, have
moderate amounts of protein, use Splenda for my sweetener
and have cut out desserts except for fruit or angel
food cake (which has been my savior). I’m losing about
1 lb. a week, but didn’t have that much weight to
lose in the first place. My goal is to get to about
125 lbs. and I don’t have too far to go.<br
2000 mgs. of glucophage a day, but am hoping to reduce
that dosage with time. I’m not on shots yet.<br
    this helped?<br

Also a type II for the past 7 years. I’m on two
meds-glyburide and glcophage- for my diabetes. I am learning
that the timing of my meds is important. My BS’s are
better when I take the glyburide about 30 minutes before
eating and the glucophage with my meal. I have always
taken my meds, but not been good about diet and
exercise. I have recently started doing some very moderate
exercise and have noted an improvement in my BS’s- very
gradual but noticiable over time. Have started acually
measuring my portions since portion control seems to be a
problem for me. Currently, I am using a 1500 calorie diet
food exchange system for monitoring my carb intake and
am trying to use the glycemic index in picking my
carbs to see if that helps. Keeping to my diet is a big
struggle and I am not always successful (I crave carbs-

can pretty much avoid sweets, but fall victim to
bread, pasta, etc.) - but have been doing better in the
    last couple of months. -Dona

    Hi Keene!<br
it will help all of us out. It helps to see how
other diabetics control their sugars. By the way, you
are doing a great job with your sugars. Best wishes
on you reaching your weight goal.<br
    have a great day.<br

  6. Sandy Annamae Says:

Thanks, Taty! My goal, however, is to lower my
glucophage (am on 2000 mgs. a day). I see that others are
doing just this. Maybe I’ll get permission from my
    doctor soon.<br
    sharing and encouraging posts.<br

    hello there everyone
Well, I am an 18 year old girl, who has been living with type II
diabetes for the last year. Whenever I tell someone that I am
diabetic, they always think that I have type I, since most it is the
most common for teenagers and children, and I always feel like a
freak when I tell them that I have type II . I had my diabetes under
control, until I came to college, and then I became the bad diabetic
that only got worse. I started to become extremely depresesed in
January and began to eat more than I was supposed to, and ate the
wrong things. I went to my doctor over Spring Break, and he told me
that I needed to up my meds to 3 times a day, which really upset me,
because I’m only 18 and I feel so overwhelmed by this stupid disease!
I hate it because I see everyone eating cookies and drinking Coke,
and eating candy, and I can’t. Especially at my college, there isn’t
much of a diabetic menu, and the snacks they do have are filled with

sugar, like cupcakes, muffins, cookies, candy bars even jello. I
don’t know where I am going with this, but I guess I am just very
frustrated with the fact that I have to plan my meals out and time
them so my blood sugar stays in the normal ranges, and no one else
does. That’s all for now, and of course my friends are there for me,
but they don’t understand completely because they don’t have it, and
I figured it would be best if I joined something where there were
    fellow diabetics who would.
