Docs lack of knowledge of insulin pumps
Taty,<br
docs/nurses who know nothing of the pump. It became so much
of an issue for me - that when I had my last medic
ID bracelet inscribed I put “Diabetic on Insulin
Pump - Do Not Remove Pump” on it with my name. It
amazes me that I run across more people in my everyday
life who know what the pump is, than medical
professionals. I know it makes me uncomfortable. I wonder how we
could reach all the people who need to know about our
pumps . . .? Anybody have any ideas?

I whip the puppy out as soon as I’m seated in the
doc’s office and ‘fiddle’ around with it. If the doc
hasn’t a clue, I don’t go back. I also have the MiniMed,
Disetronic and Animas reps contact that practice.<br
another hand if I’m ’stuck in isurance land with this one
dude, I also leave flyers in their office about our
upcoming pump group meetings and ask the doc himself to
come give a talk about anything diabetic. One guy who
did this came to talk about the Heart and Diabetes,
and now is a stauch supporter of the pump. And the
group too I might add.<br
