Sleep Apnea

Saturday, August 30th, 2003

Hi everyone!<br
November 2000 issue of Diabetes Forecast.<br
Snoring A Warning Sign?<br
your snoring poses a health danger. After all, how
many times has your spouse threatened bodily harm if
the racket kept him or her awake one more night? But
scientists are learning there are dangers beyond those posed
by sleep-deprived bed partners. Loud snoring is a
symptom of sleep apnea, a breathing disorder that is more
common in people with diabetes.<br
Apnea?<br
breathing while they’re asleep. After 10 to 90 seconds,
breathing resumes with a snort or gasp, only to stop over
and over again all night. People with sleep apnea
usually have no idea that they have brething problems.

Glandular-

Wednesday, August 27th, 2003

By the way, my mother and I have often wondered
about her parents and diabetes. They are both deceased
and were never diagnosed, but weren’t real big on
going to the doctor. Both, especially my grandmother,
were overweight. I suspect that they weren’t diabetic
because both lived very long lives with no diabetes-type
complications. One interesting thing about their
lifestyles, however, is that they never had a car. They lived in the
city, but had to walk to catch buses to get around.
Each of them probably walked at least 3-4 miles a day,
often carrying packages. They also had fairly low
levels of stress in their lives. Makes one wonder- Dona

“This is your captain speaking. WELCOME ABOARD
FLIGHT 109 to Chicago. We’ll be cruising at 43,000 feet.
If you look out on the right side…”<br
Wake up! What are you doing, brother?”<br
Guess I was daydreaming…”<br
If you don’t want to fix bicycles all your life, pay
attention!”<br

Docs lack of knowledge of insulin pumps

Tuesday, August 19th, 2003

Taty,<br
docs/nurses who know nothing of the pump. It became so much
of an issue for me - that when I had my last medic
ID bracelet inscribed I put “Diabetic on Insulin
Pump - Do Not Remove Pump” on it with my name. It
amazes me that I run across more people in my everyday
life who know what the pump is, than medical
professionals. I know it makes me uncomfortable. I wonder how we
could reach all the people who need to know about our
pumps . . .? Anybody have any ideas?

INSENSITIVITY

Monday, August 18th, 2003

I sat down at the lunch counter, and the old
white woman on the next stool got up.<br
next to a black man?” I jeered.<br
she said. “You shouldn’t be so insensitive. How was I
to know what color you are?”<br
noticed the color of her cane: white.<br

Glandular, something different to see.

Tuesday, August 12th, 2003

Seems all diabetics fall asleep from time to
time, maybe this will wake them up.<br
very interesting. Glandular,… many glandular
diseases can be started by auto-immune responses. That is
all-ready decided in the embryo. The developing embryo has
three layers of cells; the ectoderm giving rise to skin
and nerves, then the mesoderm, it becomes muscles,
blood, arteries, veins and the heart. Now watch this!!!
The third layer, the endoderm gives rise to the
lining of the stomach and intestines and related glands
and organs, including, YES the pancreas, thyroid
gland and gastric parietal cells. It appears that the
immune systems of some people, for reasons yet unknown,
attack RELATED tissues. These are referred to as
clusters. So, we have to watch out for thyroid disease and

Yesterday’s trip

Monday, August 11th, 2003

The trip to OKC yesterday was a total loss. The
Cardiologist cancelled and rescheduled at the last minute. The
first of the 2 pair of glasses that are supposed to
take my eyes from 20-400 & 20-600 were not ready. Beth
is not doing at all well with her Mastocytosis and
the amputee meeting was a total disaster. The speaker
did not show and there were only 3 other people there
with Jodi and I. My bedtime blood sugar was 275. But
when it spikes suddenly like that it goes back down
just as fast. It was 107 pre-brealfast this morning.
Y’all have a good day now y’ahear.<br

We go back to OKC!!

Tuesday, August 5th, 2003

Tomorrow we go back to OKC. (Our 4th such trip in
2 weeks) Our middle daughter Beth is in the
hospital with her Mastocytosis and tomorrow night is our
amputee support group meeting. We have become the Road
Warriors.<br
